The North Bay Fires

As I write, the North Bay Fires are still raging in Sonoma and Napa Counties. I know that some of our member associations have been affected, as well as numerous homes, businesses, and lives. The loss is overwhelming, and my heart goes out to everyone in the area.

If you are in a position to help, please consider making a donation to the Red Cross – they are assisting in several shelters in the area.

ECHO Board Member Panel

Congratulations to our Award Winners!

This year, at ECHO's 45th Annual Seminar, we introduced two new annual awards: the Homeowner Association of the Year and the Board Member of the Year.

These awards recognize and honor remarkable California communities and board members who do exceptional work in their homeowner associations and support board education. For the inaugural awards, we are thrilled to honor an association and board member who have demonstrated steadfast dedication both to ECHO and to their association members.

2015 ECHO Board Election & Bylaws Update

In October, we mailed a proxy to all 1300 homeowner associations who are members of ECHO - the voting members of our community. The letter was sent to the HOA President listed in our records. We hope your HOA board or board president will take the time to review the voting materials and return them to the ECHO office. If you'd like to know more about the candidates running for the ECHO Board, please read about them below:

California Makes Artificial Grass Permanent

This month, Governor Brown signed AB 349, a drought bill aimed at California HOAs that restrict the installation of artificial turf. Significant protections already exist for owners who wish to install “low water-using landscaping,” but AB 349 goes a step further, directly addressing artificial turf.

Water Conservation Now Mandatory for California Residents

As we enter another hot, dry Californian summer, Governor Brown is taking immediate action to drastically improve our state’s conservation efforts. For the first time in recorded state history, conservation is now mandatory for all residents.

Remembering Dorothy

It is with great sadness that we must share the news of the passing of our friend Dorothy Kopczynski. For over 33 years Dorothy worked at the heart of ECHO as a steadfast employee and a wonderful and loving friend to all who knew her.

ECHO Supports HOA Claims in Architectural Lawsuit

ECHO was instrumental to the court ruling on the Beacon Residential Community Association vs. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The court held unanimously that principal architects can be liable to the eventual buyers of a development.

HOA Life: What's Your Story?

Every day we hear from HOA members who share the same struggles. When they call, sometimes their first comment is "you've probably never heard this before." Well we have. And so have you. Share your thoughts, and let's make our community a little bigger. If you live in an HOA, you have a story to tell and insights to share.
