SB 1243 Effect on HOAs

Current law does not require that common interest managers be certified. However, for managers who wish to use the title "Certified Common Interest Development Manager," the law prescribes certain training requirements. The provision that would be extended by SB 1243 is set to expire as of January 1, 2015. SB 1243 would extend the effectiveness of a provision that regulates the practice of common interest development managers until January 1, 2019. If you would like to read more about the specific requirements surrounding "Certified Common Interest Development Managers," review the California Business and Professions Code Sections 11500 through 11506.

Business Code as Amended

While the amendment will not take effect until January 1, 2015, Section 11506 of the Business Code will be amended to the following:

This part shall be subject to review by the appropriate policy committees of the Legislature. This part shall remain in effect only until January 1, 2019, and as of that date is repealed, unless a later enacted statute, that is enacted before January 1, 2019, deletes or extends that date.
